Baltic Sea Cycle Route
The Baltic Sea Cycle Route leads from Heiligenhafen over the sunny island of Fehmarn to Travemünde. It continues via the Hanseatic city of Wismar to Kühlungsborn, Rostock and Graal-Müritz around the Baltic Sea.
Fishing villages and seaside resorts
Keeping close to the shore, the Baltic Sea Cycle Route passes along thickly-wooded steep banks, traditional fishing villages, glamorous seaside resorts, long-standing Hanseatic towns and old farmsteads. Cyclists will experience the great variety of cultural-historic sites along the Baltic Sea coast in Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and their traditions – and of course the friendly people.
Suggested route for a one-day tour: 72 km from Travemünde to Poel
Explore part of the fascinating Baltic Sea Cycle Route in just one day. Begin your trip in the seaside resort of Travemünde, where a detour to the four-masted bark 'Passat' is recommended. Cycling through the hilled landscape of the Klützer Winkel region, you will arrive in the Hanseatic Town of Wismar, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Situated just off Wismar, the island of Poel with its unique natural environments serves as a resting and breeding ground for thousands of water birds.
