Hamburg-Bremen Cycle Route
A truly Hanseatic discovery tour: Away from busy roads, this long-distance cycle route connects the Hanseatic Cities of Hamburg and Bremen and leads you through the region between the Elbe and the Weser.
Landscapes typical of Northern Germany
Pedal along historic trade routes, secondary roads and forest paths. Explore the characteristic Northern German landscape along the lowlands of the Wümme, the Oste and the Este, and enjoy extensive woodlands and the beautiful geest landscape.
Suggested route for a one-day tour: 56 km from Hamburg to Tostedt
From Hamburg’s central train station you cycle to the district of Wilhelmsburg, home of the 2013 International Garden Show. Several leisure and garden facilities invite you to rest before crossing the Elbe via the historic Alte Elbbrücke. The route then takes you via Meyer‘s Park to Regionalpark Rosengarten and all the way to Hollenstedt – the former home of boxing legend Max Schmeling. From Heidenau, you can reach Tostedt with its train station.

- Trail conditions: The route mostly leads along low-traffic lanes and level or slightly hilled landscapes. Only the stretch before Hamburg features a number of gradients; suitable for touring and leisure cycling.
- Signage: The entire route is indicated with ADFC signposts and the red-and-white logo in both directions.
- Special features: This long-distance cycle route (D-Route 7) connects the Elbe Cycle Route with the Weser Cycle Route • between May and October: Refreshments at Melkhus dairy farms • free brochure with a selection of cyclist-friendly accommodation
